Old fashion braces scare many people away from straightening their teeth because many people picture themselves with a mouth full of metal. But correcting one’s tooth alignment does not mean setting off the metal detector for all the metal in one’s mouth. Invisalign straightens teeth by the use of invisible braces and there is no need for heavy metal appliances which can be unsightly or painful.

Invisible braces are the future of smile correction and make teeth alignment practical and painless. The orthodontist attaches a series of clear plastic retainers that fit over the gum line helping the teeth adjust in a straighter alignment while adjusting gaps. As the tooth alignment changes the wearer is fitted with new retainers that will continue to move the teeth into proper position.

One of the biggest advantages of wearing plastic braces and tooth adjusting retainers is that the retainers are removable. This means that the wearer can remove the retainers before mealtime and before brushing. One of the most common complaints wearers of traditional braces express is that they have to adjust their chewing motion during the time they wear their metal braces.

People who wear traditional metal braces have to be on constant guard against tooth decay because it is difficult to adequately brush with metal in one’s mouth. This is especially true for people who eat a lot of sugary foods. Sugar accumulates between the metal braces and the gum line increasing the incidence of cavities.

Wearers of traditional metal appliances have to figure out how to brush their teeth with without damaging the braces but at the same time adequately cleaning their teeth and gum. People who wear invisible braces need not worry about damaging their plastic retainers because the braces are removed before brushing and easily replaced once the brushing session is completed. Of course one should wear the retainers as often as possible in order to experience faster results.

The good candidate, the person who should wear plastic retainers, is the person who is responsible and dedicated to wear the retainers consistently, that is throughout the day and nighttime. This means that the person who would benefit from these modern braces needs to have a measure of maturity and discipline to wear the plastic braces without being reminded. Teenagers are good candidates because many candidates are self conscious about their appearance but the teen needs to understand the importance of wearing the retainers without interruption.

Those who have over sensitive gum lines are prime candidates for these modern braces because the plastic braces exert less pressure on the gum line compared to traditional metal appliances. The primary complaint wears of traditional braces make is that their teeth are in constant discomfort. People who wear modern plastic braces find that they have to put up with significantly less discomfort.

Invisalign braces are for all intents and purposes, invisible. These plastic retainers help straighten out one’s smile but do so without the discomfort and inconvenience associated with traditional braces. The right candidate for these modern braces however has to be disciplined to wear these braces when he is not eating or brushing.
